Shutterbug by Big Boi is a funky track that honestly has a kick that sounds like a basketball being dribbled. Will never leave Drake's top 5 songs ever made IMO The orchestra sample will never not give me chills. It was a banger and well known by most of hip-hop/ top 40 fans but it set the tone. Over by Drake: The first track I remember hearing when loading up the game beyond the MJ Intro was Boi-1da and Drake's song Over. Probably the weakest song on the list but we gotta get it out the way. I wholeheartedly believe the success of the series thus far was due to 2k11 as it sold nearly 4 million copies by august of that year which was the fastest the b-ball sim reached this amount of sales at the time ever. It’s understandable as each title has sold more than the last and that means gaining new fans and more $$$. In the past few years, the soundtrack curation of NBA 2K has become more of a marketing tool for artists that have a large following than for the less known. They can create lifelong memories as the songs you’ve never known become personal anthems that take you back to a time where life’s current stresses didn’t exist. It makes going through menus, grinding out sessions, and improving your skills much more enjoyable activities. If you go back to the game now it does not necessarily hold up to the improvements in the last 9 years from a gameplay standpoint but something that has always stuck out to me was the game's soundtrack.įor me, a sports game soundtrack can enhance the experience you have as a player. It revolutionized the genre and dethroned NBA Live as the basketball simulation king.
